Why a business card still matters

A business card is the simplest way to leave something in a customer's hand. People keep a card that looks professional and has what they need on it, and they pass it to friends who need your service. For a local business, one good card handed over at the right moment can turn into a phone call, a review, or a referral.

What to put on your business card

  • Your business name and logo, so people remember who you are.
  • Your name and title, so they know who to ask for.
  • One phone number and one email address you actually answer.
  • Your website, kept short enough to read at a glance.
  • A QR code on the back that goes straight to your booking page, offer, or Google review form. Make one with the free QR code generator.

Keep it simple. A clean card with plenty of white space reads as more professional than one packed with everything you do.

Set up your design so it prints cleanly

The finished card is 3.5 by 2 inches. For clean edges, build your artwork with 0.125 inch of bleed on every side, which means background colors and images extend a little past the cut line, and keep text and logos at least 0.125 inch inside the trim line. Always check spelling, phone numbers and web addresses on the proof before you approve it. Our free business card maker follows these exact rules and exports a print-ready PDF with a front and a back.

Frequently asked questions

How much do business cards cost?

Custom business cards from The Marketing Outlet start at $19.98 for 250 standard-size cards. The price goes up with quantity, and you can see the exact price for every quantity when you start your order in the app.

What size are the business cards?

They are the standard business card size, 3.5 inches by 2 inches.

Can I print on the back of my business cards?

Yes. Cards are printed in full color on the front, and you can add printing on the back for $8 more. The app shows the back-printing option when you build your order.

What paper are the cards printed on?

Premium 16pt cardstock, which is thick and sturdy, with full-color printing and a smooth matte or glossy finish.

How many business cards should I order?

You can order 250 to 5,000 cards (250, 500, 750, 1,000, 1,500, 2,000, 2,500, 3,000, 4,000, 5,000). A good rule: order enough for about six months of handing them out. Ordering more usually lowers the cost per card, and if your phone number, address or website might change soon, a smaller first order is safer.

Can I design my own business cards?

Yes. You can design in the app's online designer, upload your own artwork, or ask for professional design help. If you want to experiment first, our free business card maker lets you try layouts and download a print-ready PDF at no cost.

Can I put a QR code on my business card?

Yes, and it works well on the back. A QR code can send people to your website, booking page, menu or Google review form. Our free QR code generator makes one in seconds. Always scan a printed proof with a phone before ordering a large batch.

What file setup does a printer need for business cards?

A finished card is 3.5 by 2 inches. Printers also want an extra 0.125 inch of bleed (background that extends past the cut line) on every side, and important text kept at least 0.125 inch inside the trim line. Our free business card maker builds files with exactly this setup.

How do I order?

Choose your quantity in the app, add your design or upload your artwork, review it, and check out. Everything is done through your free Marketing Outlet account, and you can call 1-888-718-6584 if you want help.
