Why postcards work
A postcard needs no envelope to open and no screen to load. It can sit on a counter, a fridge or a desk and keep working for weeks. That makes postcards a strong format for a promotion, a seasonal reminder, a new-customer welcome, or an announcement that you have opened or moved.
Choosing a size and paper
- 4 x 6 inches is compact and classic. It suits a bold image, a short message and one call to action.
- 5.5 x 8.5 inches gives you more room for a fuller offer, details, or a coupon.
- Standard paper (#100 gloss cover) is the cost-efficient choice for large runs.
- Premium paper (16pt gloss cover, coated on both sides) is thicker and has a more polished feel for first impressions.
Tips for a postcard that gets read
- Lead with one image or headline. The front has about three seconds to earn attention.
- Make one offer. A single clear reason to act beats a list of everything you do.
- Give an easy next step. A phone number, a short web address, or a QR code. Make one with the free QR code generator.
- Check every detail. Read the phone number and web address out loud on the proof.
Set up your artwork so it prints cleanly
Build your design at the finished size with 0.125 inch of bleed on every side, so backgrounds extend slightly past the cut line, and keep text and logos at least 0.125 inch inside the trim line. Use images of at least 300 DPI so they print sharply.

Frequently asked questions
How much do postcards cost?
Custom postcards from The Marketing Outlet start at $33.98. The exact price depends on the size, the paper, and how many you order, and the app shows the price for every combination before you check out.
What sizes are available?
You can order 4 x 6 inch postcards or 5.5 x 8.5 inch postcards. The 4 x 6 size is the classic choice for a short message and a strong image, and 5.5 x 8.5 gives you more room for details.
What paper are the postcards printed on?
There are two choices. Standard is #100 gloss cover stock, the cost-efficient option. Premium is 16pt gloss cover stock that is coated on both sides, which is thicker and has a more polished feel.
How many postcards can I order?
You can order from 250 to 10,000 postcards (250, 500, 750, 1,000, 1,500, 2,000, 2,500, 3,000, 4,000, 5,000, 7,500, 10,000). Ordering more usually lowers the cost per postcard.
Can I design my own postcard?
Yes. Use the app's online designer or upload your own artwork. If you want to add a QR code, our free QR code generator makes one in seconds.
What file setup does a printer need for postcards?
Build your artwork at the finished size with 0.125 inch of bleed (background that extends past the cut line) on every side, keep important text at least 0.125 inch inside the trim line, and use images of at least 300 DPI so they print sharply.
What makes a good postcard?
A strong image or headline on the front, one clear offer, and one easy way to respond, such as a phone number, a short web address or a QR code. Postcards work best when the message can be understood in about three seconds.
